Welcome to the Directorate of Academics (DAD)

The Directorate of Academics provides expertise to the Institute on matters related to Academics, maritime profession training and monitor quality of courses, research, consultancy and publications. There are four (4) academic departments under the Directorate of Academics which are: Maritime Transport Department, Marine Engineering Department, Science and Management Department and Professional Development Services Department. 

The Directorate performs the following functions: -

1. To manages day to day operations of the Institute in regards to Academic activities;
2. To prepare criterion to be used in determining both eligibilities to join the Institute by applicants and completion of the training by candidates before they are awarded their credentials;
3. To ensure smooth linkages and exchange of information between the Institute and regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders both locally and internationally;
4. To advise the Deputy Rector (Academic, Research and Consultancy) on Policy and strategies for teaching, learning, developments, actions to be taken and responses to be made in relation to practical training curricular and standards;
5. To deal with complaints relating to academic and professional training;
6. To provide academic leadership in curricular and courses evaluation including regular review of programs;
7. To establish and manage links with other academic Institutions both Locally, Regionally and Internationally;
8. To respond to various communications from within and outside the Institute relating to practical training practice, curricular and standards; and
9. To perform any other relevant duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
