The Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) achieved a major milestone on June 9th, 2023, when it received approval as a Marlins Approved Test Centre. After a comprehensive assessment by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK MCA), Marlins Training Company Limited from the UK was given this recognition.

 DMI is now able to conduct the Marlins English Test, a vital requirement for mariners around the world, as an Approved Test Center. According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the STCW Convention, English is the mandatory language for communication on board ships. This test makes sure that seafarers have the language skills needed to interact with international crews in a professional and secure way. Through the evaluation of listening, reading, and maritime-specific vocabulary, the Marlins Test guarantees that seafarers fulfill international communication requirements, which are critical for both professional advancement and adherence to global laws.
