History of Dar es salaam Maritime Institute
The Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) of the United Republic of Tanzania was established by an act of Parliament No. 22 of 1991 to address the growing needs of the shipping industry in the region. Prior to its establishment by the act of parliament, the institute was known as Dar es Salaam Maritime Training Unit (DMTU) founded on the 3rd of July, 1978 under the umbrella of the Ministry responsible for maritime affairs to fulfil the need for well-trained and certified seafarers for the country.
